[MIINAH]
I woke up the
next morning by the sound of the alarm beside my bed. I opened my eyes slowly.
The alarm showed it was seven in the morning. Yeah, I was usually waking up at
that time. I stretched my body. Hmm, my bed was the best place to sleep. Wait…
wait… bed? Did I sleep in the bed last night? Didn’t I sleep in the couch with
the snoring boy, my Dujun? Wait… I touched the space beside me, none was there.
I stared the empty spot blankly. Wasn’t I supposed to sleep with him? Did he
leave me without saying good morning? Did I dream last night? Was what happen
last night just merely a dream? Did Dujun really propose me? Did he really
bring the marriage certificate? Did I even wear the ring?
The ring… yes,
the ring….
I looked at my
right fingers. I saw it. The diamond ring was there, shone so brightly. So,
this was not a dream. Dujun did really propose me last night. I exhaled, felt
so relieve. Nothing happened last night, right? I look at my complete pajamas.
Then, I giggled alone while kicking the blanket. Once again, before I really
got out from the bed I looked at the empty space supposed to be Dujun’s, I
believed Dujun carried me from the couch to the bed and slept beside me,
because I could smell his perfume in the pillow beside me, and how the sheet in
a mess, he must be with me all night. I believed. All of these were not a
dream. It was supposed to be not.
Slowly I walked
to the living room. “Ouch…” when I touched the door, I felt my fingers in pain.
Surprised by my own fingers, I widened my eyes, how came this fingers like
this? Last night it was not like this. I had been washing the dishes even. What
happened? Someone had abruptly covered it with handkerchief. There was the
trace of blood in the tip of three fingers out of five. Did it happen after I
washed the dishes? I recalled they were fine – absolutely fine. “Dujun?” I
called him while removing the blood-covered-handkerchief, trying to find the
cotton from the locker. “Duj? Are you here?” I kept calling him. No answer. Was
I alone here? Really alone? “Dujun?” I was more like yelling now.
“Hmm…” there was
a voice. I was sure.
“Is that you,
Duj?” I asked, anxious. I tried to turn on the light when I saw a figure
standing in the balcony. A figure I knew very well. His back faced me. What a
beautiful back of beautiful creature God ever made. I smiled. “What are you
doing there?” I walked slowly toward balcony when I realized today’s shining
sun was extremely beautiful. “That is beautiful.” I whispered as I reached the
edge of the balcony.
“Mwoga?” he asked while turning his head
to face me.
“Ehm?” I looked
at his sleepy eyes, “the sun.” I said. “It’s still seven, but the sun has
appeared beautiful.” I continued, “But you are the most beautiful in the
world.” I laughed while pushed his left arm with my right arm.
“Wohooo… isn’t
me supposed to seduce you?” he pinched my cheek, “ups, I am not supposed to
pinch you…” he sighed.
“Why?” I asked,
in instant.
“Ehm…” he
murmured, “I am supposed to….” He rolled his eyes, “kiss you?” while putting
his lips to mine, and crashed it softly. “Isn’t it?” he parted while smiling
made my heart skip a beat. I just simply nodded. I didn’t know how to react,
seeing how nice this man who was standing in front of me now. “Hmm… look, you
are like a little puppy… Min.” he said.
“Min… it seems
so long you call me by that name.” I said, held the cold hedge of the balcony,
seeing the morning sky. “Time sure flies, right Duj?” I whispered.
“You too, just
call me Duj, since last night. It’s quite long time you haven’t called me like
that.” He said. “Do we miss the old days, Min?” he asked while chuckling.
“Ehm… probably…”
I mumbled, “By the way, my lovely future husband, what are you doing here since
it is still so freaking seven in the morning? Why you leave me alone in the bed
where you supposed to hug me when I opened my eyes?” I teased.
“I have my
morning coffee.” He said while showing the big mug in his right hand. “I woke
up just now, and feel like want to knock something up. And, you just have this
set of coffee.” He sighed. “It seems like we are gonna have to have breakfast
outside.” He continued.
“I am sorry.” I
replied. “I just had been discharged yesterday, so I haven’t had time to buy
the daily necessary.”
“Hey, that is
not your fault.” He said while smiling, “do you want coffee?” he gave me the
warm mug. I just simply grabbed it, and took a sip.
“Thank you.” I
said. “This is warm.” I handed it to Dujun again, when he then moved to my back
side, and hugged me from behind, his left hand in my waist, while another one
held the mug.
“This is a lot
warmer.” He said. “Isn’t it, Min?” he pecked my reddened cheek.
“Hyaa…
Dujun-ahh, you make me shy.” I closed my face with my hands.
“Why? You are
going to grow old with me, why you must get shy being with me?” He giggled. “We
are going to have many children, our children gonna get married, then we will
have bunch of grandchildren. So, we can make a team of football player.”
“What?” I
yelped. “No, we are not going to make a football team, you idiot.” I laughed.
“Then, a group
of models? You will be able to take picture each of them then!” he suggested.
“Can we?” I
asked. “But when that time comes I will have been died.” I continued, didn’t
even pay attention with the words I uttered. Suddenly both of us fell in
silence. Silly, what a mistake I had made. “I am sorry… I am not…” I said
finally, tried to see Dujun’s facial expression. But he stared blankly toward
the tiny wind.
“You are not
going to anywhere.” He whispered. “You are going to grow old with me, Min.” He
tightened his hug. “Promise me you won’t say something like that anymore.
Promise me.” He sounded trembling but happened to manage every words clear to
be heard.
“….” I couldn’t
answer him, I just nodded.
“And, I beg you,
don’t touch any work like washing the dishes, cleaning the room, everything.”
He suddenly said something out of nowhere. “I beg.”
“Why?” I
innocently asked.
“I won’t let you
get hurt by doing those stuffs.” He answered. I looked at my injured fingers.
Last night, it got bleed and the one who saw it was none other than Dujun. I
knew he must feel so worried. I was sorry that I didn’t even feel the bleeding.
“You promise me?” he asked in force.
“I promise.” I
said, short.

[DUJUN]
We had breakfast
in the café in the neighborhood. Since it was still early in the morning, not
so many people came here. I sat on the corner while seeing Miinah flipped the
menu. I saw her finger which got hurt last night. I was worried to death last
night just seeing how the blood can’t stop bleeding. That was when I almost
fell to the deep slumber when I heard Miinah moaned, I looked at her face, and
she looked in pain. She kept whispering something like ‘eomma eomma…’ that made me sit from my laying position. I got out
from the couch when I realized her fingers already bleeding. The blood fell to
the carpet. I couldn’t think the right thing to do. I just took my handkerchief
from my pocket and messily tied it with the injured fingers. She didn’t open
her eyes but kept calling her eomma.
She needed to sleep in the better place, so I decided to carry her to her
bedroom, and lay her on the bed. She kept calling her mom when I crawled to the
bed, decided to hug her and patted his back. After for awhile doing that, she
slept soundly and not moaned again, and stopped calling her mom. I fell asleep
minutes later while embracing her fragile figure.
“Duj, what do
you want for breakfast?” her voice brought me back to the reality.
“Same with you
please, princess.” I said.
“Ssst…” She
looked surprise, “don’t call me like that. It’s in public.” She whispered.
Meanwhile I could see the waiter held his laugh. I eyed him. He looked back at
me and said, “So two waffles with two hot chocolates?” He asked. I nodded. The
waiter hurriedly went to the bar. “He must want to kill you for saying
something cheesy like that.” Miinah laughed while she accidently looked at her
fingers. “Ehm… thank you…” she whispered.
“For?” I asked,
purely didn’t know what she meant.
“This.” She
showed her injured fingers. “And this,” she showed the finger with the diamond
ring. “I thought last night was just a dream because I suddenly slept on the
bed and you suddenly not by my side.” She said. “I bet I must be on the angst
feeling so much.”
“You don’t need
to feel like I am going to leave you, Miinah.” I said. “I will be with you.” I
continued. “Ehm… that’s why come to my parent’s house, will you?”
“Not today
right?” she asked. “The scarf for Duri unnie
is already half made though.”
“You can finish
it on my parent’s house, Miinah.” I said calmly.
“You are gonna
to meet my dad, right?” She asked.
“Yeah, I will.”
I said, “We gonna come together?” I asked.
“Yes, I guess.”
She said. “Do I need to pack today?”
“Yes.” I said,
shortly. “If you live with my family, you won’t feel anxious again… I promise…
You won’t feel alone because no one is around you. I give you this option
because you don’t want to live with your dad….”
“Thank you…” she
said. “I realize the fact now, I get your point. I will follow your lead.”
Both of us
smiled. Meanwhile, the waiter (who held his laugh back then) eyed us and now he
held his tears. What a funny waiter. Kkk.
