Haneul didn’t
know what time it was. She stood on the funeral hall beside her Dad photo who
smiled widely which she knew she would never have had the chance to see it
again. There was no tear anymore since she stood there ages ago and bowed to
the guests every time her Dad’s friends and some of her college friends came to
give the last gratitude with a slight smile. There was one thing had disturbed
her all day, the fact that Yoon Dujun wasn’t here yet. Although, his group
mates were all already here, first, Son Dongwoon who had been a great dongsaeng for Haneul, then Yang Yoseob
who was in particular close enough to her, and Yong Junhyung who liked to
chatter a lot but today he was quite less noisy and looked gloomy made Haneul
feel bad too. Kikwang too, who liked to smile a lot today he looked sad. The
last was Jang Hyunseung who was rather quite but funny boy, and the least close
to her, but today was the exception because Haneul saw for the first time the
boy smiled precisely only for her while saying: “Bad things will always come to
an end. Be strong.” Haneul looked up at him and smiled with her teary eyes and
muttered “Thank you” with a touched heart. Before Hyunseung left her alone, he
even patted her shoulder. Haneul shook her head and smiled toward him before
facing the other guests who came to meet
Dad non-stop.
Dongwoon
came to her when there was no any guest. Haneul didn’t even realize that the
BEAST boys were all here the whole time. She was close to them because she kept
seeing them in their free time. To make it easy, BEAST was the only friends
Haneul kept close as friends. “Nuna…,”
whispered Dongwoon to Haneul who looked to the floor blankly. There was no reaction
from Haneul that made Dongwoon held both side of Haneul’s body, shook it.
Haneul who reckoned someone shook her body gazed him. “Nuna… come… time to take
a rest…,” Dongwoon helped Haneul to stand up, “your mother and your sister…,”
he turned his head to search for those only relatives Haneul had, “not here?”
he hissed, “they are too much.”
“Dongwoon-ie…,”
said Haneul in very soft voice, “where is your hyung?”
“Hyung?” Dongwoon copied her question, “they
are there,” The maknae among the
group pointed to corner of the room where four boys talked to each other while
eating together. Haneul smiled; of course all of them were his hyungs since he was the youngest. But,
no, she meant this another hyung would
she did really want to meet him, like really and a must.
“No, I
mean your leader.” She replied. “Why isn’t he here yet?” Haneul gazed Dongwoon
who ignored it and looked at the ceiling. “Did something happen?” She asked.
“There
is no something important though, nuna.”
He answered, took some distances from Haneul, eyed her, “but there is
absolutely something hyung gets into.” He added, “Don’t worry, hyung said he
will be here this noon, and passed me message that nuna should have her meals in order.”
Haneul
chuckled. That was indeed so Dujun, she meant who else would worry about meals
besides him. No one else would. In this kind of state, he wanted her to have
meals instead of running hurriedly and hugged her, completely Dujun’s style.
“Nuna, you laughed.” Dongwoon looked at
her amaze.
“That’s
because that side of your hyung is
funny, Dongwoon-ie.” Once again Haneul let a chuckle. “And you, stop hugging me
like this, me, look so short stand beside you, Dongwoon-ie.” Haneul walked
alone after patted Dongwoon’s arm, towards the table where the BEAST members
sat together. Dongwoon stopped –like a frozen statue– in the place where he
stood for awhile before awkwardly followed Haneul from behind.
“Haneul,
come, let’s have meal first.” Yoseob moved to the side so he could give Haneul
a space for herself. The other boys looked at her worriedly. “You have worked
hard.” Yoseob whispered before giving her a glass of water. Haneul smiled to
him and drank the water when her eyes met with a couple of eyes whose owner
stood in the front of the hall’s door.
Yoon
Dujun stood there, looked at her. Both of them planted the gaze into each other
eyes. Junhyung and Hyunseung who sat in front of Haneul and Yoseob turned their
heads to see who the one actually Haneul watched over of. Dongwoon who still
stood behind Haneul got better vision and Yoseob eyed Dujun in worry. Meanwhile
Kikwang looked at their leader with a mouth almost opened, kind of shock.
Haneul
knew something not good was actually happening, right now. Aside of his Dad’s
funeral, other things came along as well.
---
“What
the hell are you talking about? Do not kid me!” Haneul frowned. “I’m not going
to marry anyone!” She hissed, stood, pointed Dujun’s nose with her small finger.
“Not even you.” She glared towards Dujun, who sat in a bench outside the funeral
hall, looking through Haneul’s eyes. The girl gave up, sat on the bench, beside
Dujun. She sighed, “Why should I get married to get the inheritance from Dad…?”
mumbled while clenched her fist, “I am the only daughter of him though… it’s
stupid… if only he didn’t get married to that woman….”
Dujun shut
his mouth. He looked weary as well. “Your Dad…,” he uttered, “said this to me
the night before I met you, before I got back from Japan yesterday, that he
would like me to marry you.” He stopped, managed some breathe, “That is why I
asked perhaps last night your Dad was already home because I got the feeling
that something bad will happen to your Dad.” He worriedly looked at Haneul who
still clenched her fist and didn’t even once look back at him. “I thought your
Dad had the feeling of he was no longer be around here, and gave me the
mandate.” He started to get the sore throat because of his eyes got teary as
well. “After the concert, manager hyung said that CEO from Park Agency had
called me, and asked me what the relation I have with the enemy agency is. I just said, he is ahjussi who is already close to me since long time ago. That was
true though. And…,” he hesitated for awhile before continuing, “he said the
only way to save you is by marrying you.” He shook his head, “No, Ahjussi actually begged me to marry you,
Haneul.”
“What… what
actually Dad meant by saying the only way
to save me…,” Haneul held her tears, faced Dujun, “Save from the witch… he
meant…, oh yeah…,” She erased the tears which flowed to her cheeks with her
both palms, “the witch and her daughter who don’t even care to come up in her
husband’s funeral.” She covered her face with the palms, shaking crazily while
crying.
Dujun
hugged her, held his own tears. “So, the attorney of your Dad had come to meet
me this morning after hearing the news of the accident.” Dujun thought he
should say the real situation faster. “He said that unless you get married, you
would be penniless. Your step mother will take it all because that is the
condition your Dad had made before marrying her. To manage the money your Dad
had, you should have a husband who can manage the company, or your step mother
will take over everything even being the CEO of the company.” Dujun stopped for
awhile, “Even Kang attorney hoped me to help this out. But, the matter is…,”
“The
matter is…,” Haneul pulled out Dujun’s embrace, “you are one of the people of
the company Dad against hardly.” Haneul eyed him. “Don’t be stupid to sacrifice
your life,” she stood, “your career and your members are on the top right now.
Don’t ever think to mess it!” massaged her own temple, she whispered, stressed
every words, “I won’t marry anyone, not even you.” And she walked away, left
Dujun who looked at her speechless.
