It must have been the quietest
days in Haneul’s life after her Dad’s funeral. She came to college like there
was nothing wrong in her life –ever. She worked on research paper and finished
it right before the deadline –yes, her life didn’t change at all. It was all
pretty much the same. It was kind of strange when the witch –her step mother
and her daughter – stayed quiet all the time. But, for her horror, Haneul knew
that somehow both of them were in the middle of plotting something. That was
why she kept on watching them and learnt the things from Kang attorney; if by any
chance, there was another solution beside set her off to marry Yoon freaking
Dujun in order to help her out from the penniless
case.
Haneul had finished her first
period class and sat on the chair by the window in the café at college. She
frowned to see people laughed and chattered as if the world had given them
silver—gold—diamond—whatever those were, and never the world gave them tears. She
sighed to the mouth of the coffee cup she held before sipped it. She turned her
head to take a glance toward inside of café when Haneul realized there was a
crowd in the corner. There was a man—boys, wearing a red sweater and another
one with white shirt. The one with red sweater looked familiar. He smiled and
held the pen in his right hand. He signed to the paper brought by some of girls
who lined after him. But, he just got few of them. The entire pack had been
booked by the white shirt guy. He completely got all the girls from the café and
she felt sorry to the red sweater guy that he just got three more girls to get
his signs. But, wait—he looked damn really familiar, Haneul took a better
vision, did I have mentioned it before?
He was Dongwoon. Son Dongwoon. Oh yeah, Haneul forgot, he studied at the same
college as her.
She chuckled, seeing Dongwoon
sighed on his chair because there was no girl asked for his signs, trying not
to roll his eyes recognizing the white shirt guy still had bunch of girls
lining after him. He took his coffee cup boringly and turned his head to another
direction. Accidently, he met Haneul’s eyes. Haneul smiled and raised her own
coffee cup to the air, “Toss!” while eyeing Dongwoon who suddenly stood up from
his chair. “Yah, what’s with this little boy… don’t come here… yah… omg
fangirls gonna kill me…,” Haneul tried to hide his face behind the coffee cup
but it was just too late. Dongwoon had literally walked toward her table
cheerfully. “Nuna!” he said as he sat
in front of Haneul, “You attend class today?” he asked.
Haneul just nodded. “Yah,
Dongwoonah, why you come to my table?” Haneul looked around, hoping that no one
realized that actually the youngest member of Beast sat right in front of her
eyes. “The girls gonna kill me.” She hissed.
“No one gonna kill you, nuna.” Dongwoon whispered. “All the
girls here are Lee Jongsuk hyung’s.”
He pointed the white shirt guy with his chin lazily. Something hit Haneul’s
head! Lee Jongsuk, he said! He was that damn Lee Jongsuk? Wait—really? Haneul’s
eyes widened. “Nuna, don’t say you…—”
“Of course! But, I don’t want to ‘go
down’ and have a fight with those girls, how bout you ask him a sign,” Haneul
chuckled, “give that to me.”
“What?” Dongwoon almost yelped. “I
thought you are a cool girl, nuna.
So, you just the same like the other girls.”
“What do you mean by cool?”
Haneul punched Dongwoon’s chest jokingly. Dongwoon froze for a second before
finally gaining his consciousness. “Of course I’m no different with the other
girls. He is handsome, tall, popular, has a lot of money, and same age with me…,”
She sipped his coffee, “probably he can be put into the list of those I should
get married with, battle him with Dujun, so I need his sign to sign the marriage
contract.” She whispered, Dongwoon
looked at her, speechless.
“Nuna, you are too cool.” Dongwoon palmed his face. “What’s exactly
wrong with hyung? He is a lot popular
than Lee Jongsuk hyung. He is the
national boyfriend-dol, ehm he is the soccer-dol, he is the actor-dol, he is
the mc-dol, entertainer-dol, ehm –”
“Dongwoonah, you make them up
though,” Haneul couldn’t help but laughed, “but… perhaps do you know what I am
actually talking about here?” She suddenly became serious.
“All of us are aware, nuna.”
Dongwoon low his voice. “You know, because Dujun hyung is our pillar –ehm, you know, being leader and all, so, that’s
the right thing we should know what happen.” He looked at Haneul fiercely, “I
just feel curious, nuna, why you
reject him? I thought you guys have been going out for all this time…,”
“I know…,” Haneul breathed, “but,
the thing is not that easy, Dongwoonahh,” she continued, “I see that I shouldn’t
have involved you guys… ehm—”
“I thought that was what your Dad
wanted, nuna.” He cut Haneul’s world.
“So basically, you never once have made us involve in this situation. Your Dad
did that, nuna. In some points I can
side your Dad for choosing hyung to
be your husband…,” Dongwoon stopped for awhile, for choosing the best words to
come out from his lips, “isn’t it simple…? It is because hyung is the one you fall in love with… or am I false?” Dongwoon
planted gaze to Haneul. She never knew that this young boy could talk like an
adult –a very mature adult.
Haneul gazed the wooden table
when suddenly she and Dongwoon heard voices gossiping near them. “Isn’t she
Park Haneul, the daughter of CEO Park who died some days ago? Can possibly she
seduce Dongwoon oppa?” said a voice,
Haneul tried to ignore. “Yah yah… she probably gonna be a beggar in any moment…
look… she now wearing branded clothes but who knows that her step mother will
take all of her money, hahaha, poor thing, she always look calm and all, she’s
actually all alone. Have you ever seen her around with friends? Her Dad’s
funeral must have been companied by bunch of mosquitoes only.” Another one
added. “Why does she sit with Dongwoon oppa?
Should we take photo of him with her?” the new voice got in dialogue. “Are you
crazy?” The second voice frowned. “You gonna kill our oppa’s popularity by taking the photo of those two, you know, the
girl is the daughter of the CEO where his company is the enemy of the one oppadeul
staying at.” She added. “Don’t be silly. Take away your phone, put it back to
your bag!”
Dongwoon silently eyed Haneul who kept her
ears to the conversation. He felt sorry deep in his heart because he knew that
those girls who gossiping around must have been his fans –Beast’s fans. “Nuna, don’t listen to them. They are
just fangirls who envy you because you sit with me here.” Dongwoon waved his
hands in front of Haneul who still listening to those dialogues. She looked at
Dongwoon, smiled slightly, “Are you okay, nuna?”
Dongwoon unnecessarily got worried –or, it
was actually normal to get worried? Dongwoon mentally kicked his random
thoughts of this getting worried stuff –this
was stupid, he talked to himself. “Nuna,
if you need coffee companion, like today, you may call me. I believe you have
my phone number or Ktalk, line, watsap? Whatever you gonna use –” He laughed
awkwardly –he knew it was awkward, offering
companion to the girlfriend of your hyung? You must be crazy, Son Dongwoon.
“I’ll always in online mode.” He chuckled before standing on his feet. “Nuna, I have class in a minute,” he
scratched his neck weirdly, “I’ll leave first… and don’t forget I’ll be always
around here if you need me… and you know it’s not weird at all if you bump to
me like this because… huh… you know we are students at the same college.” Yah, Son Dongwoon, what has gotten in to
you? Did you eat something weird this morning? –Dongwoon raised his right
hand, like ‘Yo’ before turning his back. He didn’t dare to see Haneul’s face
again, that what he said was positively weird.
Haneul looked at Dongwoon, did
not really understand what he said. She knew some words though that he
willingly to be her companion in break time like this because they got no
choice as they may bump into each other, she nodded. That was not false at all;
they were studying at the same college. But, she didn’t really understand why
Dongwoon must offer her something like that. Wasn’t it obvious that she would
have called him if they meet in college, like this… what’s wrong with him… did
he drink wine in the morning? He looked nervous and all –
But
wait, what that Son Dongwoon kid did there…
Haneul opened her mouth, in disbelief.
Dongwoon came to the girls –who gossiping about Haneul and her Dad and all— and
gave them his photos from his bag plus he signs each photo whit smile in his
lips. What the hell did he think he was doing?
Haneul almost dropped her coffee cup when realizing Dongwoon once again turned
to her and raised his hand to say –kind of—bye bye, before walking out from the
café. The girls bowed to him, tried to gain their sanity, looked at his back
that left them in awe. Then suddenly they looked at Haneul’s table in sync and
bowed to her. Haneul confusedly gazed them, “What the hell happen here?” she slightly
bowed her head to those girls before all of them running hurriedly to the front
door, that Haneul believed they were going to show off Dongwoon photos and his
signs to their friends. No doubt!

“Yobeoseyooo… yah, yob—”
Dujun looked at his cell phone which produced the ‘tut tut tut’ sound. “She
rejected it.” He hissed. “What has gotten into her actually? It is almost a
weak, for heaven sake.” Frustratingly he threw his phone to the couch. “Did I
do something false… hrrr…,” He scratched his head while looking to the ceiling.
Will our relationship end like this? I
mean we never start it, officially, I am just into her, and she is just into
me, that’s why we get along very well all this time…, Dujun sighed.
“Hyung… what’s wrong?” Dongwoon walked toward the couch, put the bag
on the floor, “Your face looks not so good.” He eyed Dujun who seemed thinking deeply
by looking to the ceiling intensely. “Did the ceiling harm you, hyung?” He asked again. Dujun once again
completely ignored him. “Hyung, today
I met nuna.” He continued. But Dujun
stayed still. “Haneul nuna, I mean, I
met her today.” Suddenly Dujun turned his head toward Dongwoon and sat, planted
his eyes thoroughly to Dongwoon’s eyes.
What’s
with this hyung, once I said Haneul nuna name, he gets alert… is nuna really that great companion for Dujunie hyung? Does he also company her drinking coffee, like
what I offer her today? –yah, Son Dongwoon, what were you thinking
actually? Back to your sense!
