[MV REVIEW] TROUBLEMAKER'S 'NOW': THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

This is 19+ version MV and I shouldn't really spread it wider because there are still some underage Beauties around, right? But, I do really want to write this review/interpretation because there are some things really caught my attention. It has been such long time I haven't written a great interview of MV and I don't really know that it will be a good one or just a mere writing he-he-he. But, well let's move to my very state of minds.

Do anyone here realize some interesting things? I believe you guys have realized it. Firstly, I want to say that Hyunseung and Hyuna are pretty good on acting (they should try the real acting stuff somehow ha-ha-ha). Hyunseung is just flawless on acting and that Joker part is awesome... huh. Well, for Hyuna, she is actually good though to show us the feeling blue, angry, love, etc. What rubbish I talk about here, I am sorry.

Secondly, the most intriguing things on this MV are colors. I don't really have idea why lately some Kpop MVs love to play on colors. But, no, this is not just playing but giving feeling towards the song and MV more.

  • Hyuna's colors:
    • Pink : On the very first scene, Hyuna wears that pink fur coat on the club. Pink here can be represented as compassion, nurturing, and love. It relates a lot to unconditional love and understanding and the giving and receiving of nurturing. Give the note to 'unconditional love', there is no limitations for love. That is what Hyuna is being described in this MV.
    • Blue: Judging from the scene where Hyuna wears the blue fur coat (yeah, why must fur?) while the refrigerator opens, oh isn't that very cold? Yeah, taken for the emotion, Hyuna is actually feeling 'blue' means feeling down or depressed.
    • Red: Hyuna wears red when she does her rap part on that corridor and use the red lipstick to mess around. Red here can be used for revealing the emotion of power, aggression, or passion.
    • Blue: There is this scene where Hyuna appears with blue hair (oh no, you think, the director just want to give the manga-ish feel? nooooo, you are wrong, at least on my point of view it's more than that). This blue hair is actually as the representation of elderly woman. Culturally 'Blue Hair' itself is used to denote the old woman. Although judging from the scene it has been revealed clearly.
  • Hyunseung's colors and the Joker:
    • All gray for Hyunseung to be very honest, and I just want to say that he is actually aging, bored, and sad. It can actually be seen from the scene where he lays with those girls on his very own room, drinks alcohol, and throws it, and gets angry by himself -frustrated, bored, sad, and longed for something. Besides, there is this word to donate old man, Geezer which meant a picture of a man in over sized clothing he has kept since before he lost weight. It is also portrayed through the suddenly appeared Joker as the portrayal of another side of Hyunseung when he looks on to the mirror. Who notices that he wears an over sized coat(suit?)/clothe one? Associated with that cultural belief, it can be said as the growing different sides of Hyunseung, rapidly. Joker is a villain, so it can also be seen as the bad aspects of himself keeps appearing as well.
  • The couple's colors:
    • First, both of them wear white one, when they are on bed and on quarrel. In Eastern it can be meant as death. It's not like the bed scene is beautiful, it is more like the couple shows anger with their body. It's not done beautifully, it's rough, just like their love war. That's no wonder the next scene is they are having a fight.
    • Second, they wear black when dancing and when standing in the middle of those spinning (?) cars. Black in contrast shows power. In my mind, it's more like to show that the couple is actually dancing together despite all the fight and rough love they have. Dancing, getting along and sharing power.
    • White and black are actually to show us the firm position or condition. It's firm that the couple is sometimes getting along well and sometimes having a fight. The scandalous love life which won't ever stop. Yes.
    • Pink and Blue. After the scene of 'looking through mirror', we can see that slightly the couple appear with their smile in blue coat for Hyunseung and pink coat for Hyuna. Blue is commonly well known as the guy/boy color, while pink is girl. For me, it shows the side of the pure young man and woman.
  • The cars's colors:
    • Red, as in traffic light (once again -who has been getting bored of this term? ha-ha-ha), it means stop.
    • Yellow means caution.
    • Gray, means something is not clear or not in a firm position.

Thirdly, the other interesting thing is the scenes which have significance on this MV. For the very first scenes I have revealed it before that the couple is starting getting bored, frustrated, sad, depressed -simply feeling blue. ha-ha-ha. They 'play' with 'others' but they are back together eventually in the very next tomorrow morning though it's rough and not even lovely anymore. They are fighting a lot, back to make love again, making the synergy once again (dancing and all). Although they are not in a really firm condition, just like when they are sharing love in the gray car -gray represents not-firm-position-, they are still together, like forever.

The most profound scene though for me is when the Joker appears and then Hyuna appears with the red lipstick and red clothe. These scenes show how Hyunseung's actual condition is and Hyuna's. Hyunseung is the one who creates the anger (he is the villain Joker), and Hyuna seeks to stop it while showing her power and aggression.

Then, the next scene when they look in to each other through the broken mirror: although the mirror is broken, they keep seeing each other. Although they are getting older and left depression inside their souls, they are still there, together. Although the spinning cars which can be described as their surroundings have been warning them to stop their scandalous relationship, they just won't stop. The black colors they wear show the power to stay together. No one just couldn't stop them because despite all the not-firmness-condition, 'now' is the time for them to find a way back to love.

Love is complicated, lovers have quarrels a lot, but amusingly they haven't really had desire to separate themselves. They keep on seeing each other although they will hurt each other more. This is the 'unconditional love' the pink-Hyuna going to show. There is no tomorrow for lovers who really love their partners, all the things -bad and good and sad and rough and smooth and lovely and damn shit things- can happen now when they are still believing on their 'unconditional love'.

This is actually beautiful MV, guys!

  2. Waah ! Your review is actually what I was looking for since the Mv was released. Not only an opinion but an interpretation of every details. This Mv seemed so enigmatic to me. Especially the scene with the Joker face and the cars one. When they appeared on my screen I was like "What's the point, CUBE ?!" Now, thanks to you I understand everything. However, about their acting , I'm still not convinced. (Maybe it's because originally I cant stand any of them... I guess it is. ) Anyways, you've filled my curiosity and I thank you. (y)
